چکیده

In recent years, variants of Kanban mechanisms are proposed to deal with different levels of uncertainties commonly exist in a typical production system. Among them, generalized Kanban control (Buzacott [1989]) mechanism gained popularity as it is able to deal with uncertainties effectively while maintaining pull philosophy. In literature, many models are developed to gain insights on the design of generalized Kanban control mechanism however they were developed under the assumption that external demand for finished products of a production system in its control is very large, known as saturated condition. In the present globalization of market, most of the products face finite rate of demand, known as unsaturated condition and stochastic. In the present paper, Generalized Kanban Control unsaturated finite capacitated Multi-Stage Production of serial type (GKCMP) system has been considered with uncertainties in external demand and processing times. A model of decomposition Continuous Time Markov Chain (CTMC) type is developed for analyzing the considered system for the performance measures, namely, fill rate, average inventory and throughput. The model is then validated with stochastic discrete event simulation model at 95 % confidence level. Insights on the issues relevant to deployment of safety stocks, such that specified fill rate is achieved with minimum average inventory, have been presented. It is found analytical results are in close agreement with simulation results and uniform increasing Kanban allocation pattern is dominant over uniform allocation pattern for the specified criteria.

Using Electromagnetism Algorithm for Determining the Number of kanbans in a Multi-stage Supply Chain System

This paper studies the multi-stage supply chain system (MSSCM) controlled by the kanban mechanism. In the kanban system, decision making is based on the number of kanbans as well as batch sizes. A kanban mechanism is employed to assist in linking different production processes in a supply chain system in order to implement the scope of just-in-time (JIT) philosophy. For a MSSCM, a mixed-integer...

Production and Inventory Control of a Multi-item Multi-stage Manufacturing System: Simulation Modeling, Capacitated Shipment Planning and Kanban Design

The project work presented in this thesis has proposed solutions related to the control of production and work-in-process inventory in a multi-item multi-stage manufacturing system. A suitable base-stock inventory control policy is recommended to ensure that the desired service levels are maintained between production stages and for the final customers. Concept of coupling the production lines ...

Interaction of design and operational parameters in periodic review kanban systems

In this study, we propose an analytical model to determine the withdrawal cycle length, kanban sizes and number of kanbans simultaneously in a multi-item, multi-stage, multi-period, capacitated periodic review kanban system. Traditionally, research in kanban systems has been separated into ‘design level’ research, and ‘shop floor level’ research. In both veins of research, especially for the de...

Optimal size of kanban board in a single stage multi product system

The aim of this paper is to define a methodology for determining the optimal size of the supermarket (between two workstations) through the optimization of the number of kanban in a kanban board. It also identifies some production parameters that greatly influence the optimal size of a kanban board. The approach chosen is the building of a simulation model of a single stage multi-product system...

A Ratio-Based Efficiency Measurement for Ranking Multi-Stage Production Systems in DEA

Conventional data envelopment analysis (DEA) models are used to measure efficiency score of production systems when they are considered as black boxes and their internal relationship is ignored. This paper deals with a common special case of network systems which is called multi-stage production system and can be generalized to many organizations. A multi stage production system has some stages...
